Social Groups collect up to 30 days of social media data from the social media accounts and communities you are interested in monitoring. When you add social media accounts/communities to a group, Primer will collect 30 days of data which you can explore.
Getting Started
You can add social media accounts or communities from Telegram, Discord, Reddit, MeWe, and Gab to a social group. You can also add social media accounts from Twitter, and communities from 4chan and 8kun.
Once you've created a group and given it a name, click into the group and use the "Add Sources" button in the top right. Select the "Platform" and the "Account Type" you which to search across.
Please note that not all accounts that exist on those platforms have been indexed on our end. If you are trying to add an account that you know exists but it is not showing up in the search bar, please reach out to the team at [email protected]
Once accounts have been added to a group, we will collect data for all accounts over the last 30 days.
How is a social media account identified as "Authentic" or "Inauthentic"?
We assess potential account inauthenticity based on posting behavior, follower networks, and the age of the account. We assess inauthentic actor/poster behavior across Discord, 8Kun, 4Chan, Gab, MeWe, Reddit, and Telegram. A posters behavior is considered "spam-like" if 90% of their posts are copy/paste posts, they post at least 10 "spam-like" posts over 7 days, and they don't post or engage with original content.
How are "Accounts With Similar Content" Identified?
To populate the list of Accounts with Similar Content, Primer analyzes the recent public posts of the accounts within your social group. To do this, we turn that text into a single “content fingerprint,” and then search our index for other accounts whose fingerprints sit closest to that centroid. Quality-control filters (e.g., activity level, language, spam checks) are applied before we show the list.
Pro Tip: With only a handful of accounts in your social group, the centroid can be less accurate. Adding more accounts to your group can help sharpen the results.
How to Navigate Social Groups
When you click on a list from the home page, you will see the feed. This is where the social media users and communities you've selected will populate. Like in Pulse, you can filter through these posts for type of post, type of platform, entities, types of attacks or events, and inauthenticity. On the right side of the feed, you can find recommendations for accounts or channels that are similar to the ones in your feed now.
Under the search bar, you can click "Posts" for your feed, and "Insights." Below is an example of the Insights page:
The Insights page provides information on the channels/groups you're following. It summarizes posts over time, highlights the top 10 contributors, and extracts the top 5 entities being discussed positively and negatively.
Adding User Accounts From A Pulse Monitor
You can now add user accounts you discover in a Pulse monitor directly to an existing social account. Just navigate to the Feeds tab of your monitor, and in the top right corner of a post, select the three dots and then "Add Author to Social Group":
From there, you can chose which existing social group you would like to add the user to. Please note, you can add a user to any social group that you've created, or any group that you've been given edit rights to:
You can also add a user to a group from the post detail page:
