How to Create a Custom Briefing

Easily add events, event details, themes and more to your saved items to create a custom briefing

Results from Primer can be easily selected for export. Items can be saved directly from the events feed, an individual event detail page, Themes tab, Locations tab, and on the social media feed within Command. Items that saved appear in your main bookmark tab.

Events Feed

On the Events Feed page, to add events to your saved items to create a custom briefing, start select the bookmark icon to the right of the event title:

You can create a folder, or label, for the event, or just select DONE and it will be added to your saved items on the main bookmark tab

To customize the event details you'd like saved to your briefing, select CUSTOMIZE and the following box will pop up:

You can chose to add all details from the event to your saved items, or select popular options including "Summary(s)", "How We Got Here" Timeline, and "Quotes."

All of the events and corresponding event details you select will be saved on the Saved Items tab from the navigation menu

Event Detail Page

You can also add events and their corresponding details directly from an individual event detail page:

You can download the individual event directly as a .docx or .pdf by clicking the download button:

Similar to the events feed, you have the option to CUSTOMIZE the event details you would like saved.

How We Got Here Timeline

The How We Got Here Timeline can be added to your saved items as part of an event, or it can be saved individually directly from the event details page. To save a specific timeline, select the bookmark next to the timeline from the main event details page:

To customize, add a label, and save the timeline, select the bookmark icon to the right o the timeline title:

From there, you can create a specific label for your timeline, or select CUSTOMIZE to edit the timeline prior to saving. When you select CUSTOMIZE, the Export Editor will pop up:

Delete events you don't want to appear in the timeline, by selecting the trash can icon to the right of the document summary, and select SAVE once complete.

Once the timeline is saved, navigate to the main Saved Items tab, and it will be available in your saved items under the "Timelines" section. Please note that only timelines saved individually will show up in this section. Timelines that were downloaded as a part of a complete event details will not appear here.

To download, click anywhere on the timeline. The expanded timeline will pop up, and you can Download the format of your choice (docx, pdf, png):

Themes Tab

On the Themes tab, you can edit and save individual themes. Start by selecting the bookmark icon next to a theme:

From there, select CUSTOMIZE and the export editor will open:

Remove events from the theme by selecting the trashcan icon:

Once you've any events from the them, select the SAVE button have it saved to the main bookmarks tab.

You can also download individual themes directly by selecting the download icon next to the theme name.

Locations Tab

To add a map to your custom briefing, navigate to the Locations tab, and select the bookmark icon on the bottom left of the screen:

Once you're on the export editor page you can add events to the map in the form of call out boxes. For the call out boxes, there are a few options:

  • Add a custom marker and to create your own summary.

  • Select a prewritten summary of an event from the list along the right which is sorted using geographical resolution like region, country, or city and add it to the map. Please note, you may have to select the precise location on the map for where you want the event summary to appear.

To add the map to your custom briefing, click the SAVE button on the top right of the screen, and the map will be saved with the rest of your items on the main bookmark tab.

Social Media Data

Within Primer Pulse, you can save social media posts from the social feed on the Overview tab or the Feeds tab:

Select the bookmark icon in thee top right of the social media post, and it will be saved to the Saved Items tab:

Exporting Saved Items to Create a Custom Briefing

Now that you've saved events, themes, and maps, you're ready to export your custom briefing. Start by navigating the Saved Items tab:

On this page, you'll see pages that sort your saved items by News, Social Media, Themes, Maps, and Timelines (which includes Themes and How We Got Here Timelines). If you have created any folders/labels to organize saved outputs, you will find those here as well.

To download all saved items to a briefing, select the Select All button, and then chose to download as a .docx or .pdf. Downloading as a .docx will give you an opportunity to create your own title for the briefing, as well as perform any final edits. Below are some screenshots from the .docx download.
