Maps Customization and Export

How to customize, annotate, and export a map within News Search

Primer News Search includes the ability to customize and export a map to your saved items to create a briefing, as well as the option to download a map directly as a .docx, .pdf, or .png.

To access export editor for a map, click on the Locations tab and click on the bookmark icon on the bottom left of the screen:

Once you're on the export editor page you can add events to the map in the form of call out boxes. For the call out boxes, there are a few options:

  • Add a custom marker and write your own summary.

  • Select a prewritten summary of an event from the list along the right which is sorted using geographical resolution like region, country, or city and add it to the map.

    • Please note, you will have to select the precise location on the map for where you want the event summary to appear.

Once an event is placed on the map, you can edit the text box by clicking on the callout box and editing. You can also move the location pins around on the map - especially you're using callout boxes for the same city! Callout boxes can also be moved around the map.

To add to your saved items, simply click the SAVE button on the top right of the screen, and the map will be saved with the rest of your items on the main Saved Items tab.

Pro Tips:

The map also includes an option to switch to satellite view by clicking the globe in the top left. You can also change the aspect ratio by clicking the broken box in the top left of the map as well.

In addition, you can draw lines or boxes on the map to emphasize specific aspects of the map using the tools on the right side of the map.
