How to Create & Utilize a Custom News Source List

Easily create a custom source list from historical news sources for your News Search.

Historical News Sources

To create a custom source list comprised of news data, start by navigating to the Source Lists section of the News Search page:

You have the option to create a custom list of your own, or leverage an existing list created by Primer.

How To Create a New List

To create a new list, select the +CREATE NEW LIST button, and give the list a name:

Once your list has been named, you can add sources to it:

A new screen will pop up, where you can filter for sources based on keyword, location, or publication type. Please see Appendix A below for a description of each publication type.

Once you've found a source you'd like to add to your list, select the source and click the ADD SOURCE button on the bottom of the screen:

Continue to search and filter to add as many sources to the list as you'd like! Once your source list is complete, you will be able to view it in more detail. You can rename, add more sources, duplicate or delete it, from the menu bar at the top:

To utilize your source list, navigate to the search bar within News Search, where you will see the list in the dropdown menu under "Sources":

Please note: News source lists currently only work within the News Search application and not with the news feed within Pulse.

How To Modify and Existing Primer List

You can also modify an existing list made by Primer. Start by navigating to the Primer Source Lists section on the News Search home page, find a source list of interest, and select DUPLICATE from the side menu bar

Once the list has been duplicated, you can remove sources by selecting the box to the side of the source, and then clicking the REMOVE button:

You can add sources by selecting the + ADD SOURCES button at the top right of the screen.
